Why we groom one dog at a time
In a busy salon, a dog can spend hours in a kennel waiting between the bath, the dryer and the table. We work differently. Your groomer works with your dog from drop-off to pickup, at your dog's pace, so kennel time stays minimal and the visit lasts about as long as the groom itself: around 1 hour for a mini groom and 1 hour 45 minutes and up for a full-service haircut.
That matters most for the dogs people worry about: puppies on their first groom, seniors, dogs who are deaf or losing their sight, and dogs who get stressed around other dogs. The reviews above tell the story: a scared dog with a “new forever groomer,” a nearly blind dog who “feels very comfortable,” and a dog who “gets stressed with too many dogs” and came home looking great.
Johnston residents have voted us Best Dog Grooming in the Iowa Living Magazine Residents’ Choice Awards four years running, and The Daily Groomer (opens in a new tab) listed us among its top grooming businesses in Iowa for 2025.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an appointment?
Yes for grooming. The self-service wash doesn't need one, but you can book a time if you prefer.
What vaccines does my dog need?
For grooming: Rabies and Distemper/Parvo, emailed before your appointment to cleanandbreezydogwash@gmail.com. For the self-service wash, records are recommended but not required.
How often should my dog be bathed?
Every 4 to 8 weeks is a good rule of thumb for a healthy coat, or sooner if they roll in something. Ask your vet if your dog has a skin condition.
Can dogs with fleas or ticks use the wash?
No. Dogs with fleas or ticks can't use the self-service wash.
How long does a grooming appointment take?
A mini groom takes about 1 hour and up, a full-service haircut about 1 hour 45 minutes and up, and a doodle haircut about 2 hours 15 minutes and up. Baths run 45 minutes for short coats to about 1 hour for medium and long coats. We call you as soon as your dog is ready.
How much does dog grooming cost?
Mini grooms start at $55, full-service haircuts at $73, standard baths at $40 and shed control treatments at $60. Prices step up by weight, and the final price depends on breed, coat condition and matting. See all grooming prices, or email us for a doodle quote.
Can I get a nail trim without an appointment?
Yes. A nail trim or grind is $18, and walk-ins are welcome on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We can't guarantee a groomer is in, so please call (515) 608-4808 before you come.
Do you groom cats?
Yes. A cat shave down with nails is $72. Not every groomer takes cats, so please call ahead to book.
